| 内容記述 | 対象全体を把握してその良し悪しを見極めることが「批判」の本来の意味であるが，対象の価値を判断するためには，何らかの基準が必要である．批判されるものの真価を見極めるということは，批判するものに対してもそれにふさわしい厳しさと真摯さが求められる．それゆえ，「批判」に必要な基準は，既存の尺度や枠組みなどにではなく，批判するもの自身の価値観にこそ見出されるべきであろう．そうであるならば，批判という営みには，批判するものの「解釈」が内在していると言えはしないか．本稿では，『源氏物語』の英語訳と，Carl Busseの詩Uber den Bergenの日本語訳を読み解きながら，原文の心が伝わる，読んで分かる翻訳に，訳者の解釈がこめられていることを論じ，書かれたものに新たな命を吹き込む「解釈」の意味を考えてみる．そして，書かれたものを本当に分かるためには，読み手の解釈がなければならないということを提示したい． | |||||||

| 内容記述 | The present paper tries to examine the function of readers’ interpretation in understanding a given text and expressing in a literary form what is understood. Focusing on “interpretation in translation” as a means of communication of meaning, the authors compare 1) the original text (excerpt) of the Tale of Genji by Lady Murasaki and two contrastive English translations by Arthur Waley and Edward Seidensticker and 2) Carl Busse’s poem “Uber den Bergen” with its Japanese translation by Bin Ueda. From this task, it is concluded that the good translation, which conveys precise picture of the original to the readers, contains translators’ interpretation of the original text, and that translation produces a new work by means of interpretation. | |||||||
