| 内容記述 | 言語事実の記述・分析により，言語の本質を追及することを目指す今日の科学的言語学において， 「文法」は規範文法――言葉による正確な自己表現を可能にするためのルール――を意味しない．しかし，思考内 容を正しく文章に表現するための技術への要請は消滅することなく，その伝統は文章読本，論文執筆マニュアルといった形で続いている．本稿では，今日を代表する英語論文執筆マニュアルであるアメリカ心理学会発行の Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association の“grammar”の項目で扱われている文法事項の例文を取り上げ，それぞれの記述内容の解説を通じて，内容の正確な伝達を目的としたルール集としての文法の伝統が，今日の一般的な論文執筆マニュアルに引き継がれていることを確認する． | |||||

| 内容記述 | In linguistics today, of which the goal is, as a branch of the exact sciences, to seek for the nature of language through observation, description, and analysis of linguistic phenomena, “grammar” does not necessarily mean a prescriptive rule-book to be used for adequate expression and communication. However, an ardent desire to speak and write a language with propriety has never ceased, and the tradition of grammar as an“ art” has been handed down in a form of a writing manual or a style manual to this day. In this report, I examine example sentences in the“ Grammar” of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association and indicate how such a writing manual for research papers in general plays a role as a rule-book, i.e., as prescriptive grammar, for good writing. | |||||
