| 内容記述 | アン・デービス名誉教授の看護師および看護学者としての半生記である．英文学と哲学で身を立てるよう勧める親に背いて看護を選んだこと，その動機はアフリカでシュバイツアーと働くためだったこと，大きく人生を決定づけたのは，自身の選択とともに，さまざまな偶然や人との出会いであったこと，シュバイツアーの自伝を読んで以来，常に旅に憧れ，実行に移した大小の旅が人との出会いや人生の転機をもたらしたことが述べられている．具体的なエピソードを通して，臨床で体験した精神看護の面白さや，カリフォルニア大学や長野県看護大学での教員生活につながった自身の選択，重要な人々との出会い，自身を有名にした生命倫理の著書執筆の学術的・時代的背景，長野県看護大学に来た経緯とそこで見藤学長と一緒にした仕事，アイデアの提案と実現に関する日米間の社会文化的差異の観察などが語られている． | |||||

| 内容記述 | Dr. Anne J. Davis, Professor Emerita of Nagano College of Nursing (NCN) and University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), dictated her own professional life after graduating from high school to the present. Through various episodes readers will understand why and how she became a nurse, a teacher at UCSF, and a famous scholar in nursing ethics, and why and how she came to NCN where she stayed for 6.5 years. She chose nursing to go to Africa to work with Albert Schweitzer when she read his autobiography. It did not come true because of Schweitzer's death but she visited many places inside and outside of the United States, where she tried various aspects of her possibilities and met many important persons. The encounters with those persons, as well as her own decisions and some historical coincidences were determinants of her career in nursing. The content includes the fun of clinical nursing in a veteran's psychiatric hospital, an adventurous drive from New York to San Francisco, an encounter with Mariam Kaufman who recruited Anne to teach nursing to undergraduate student at UCSF, a two-year travel to Middle East and Europe with complete freedom, the academic and historical background of writing a book in bioethics that made her famous, and encounters with Miriam Hirschfeld, Hiroko Minami, Noriko Katada, and Takako Mitoh. It also includes what she did in NCN with President Mitoh and her observation of socio-cultural difference in having and testing ideas between the United States and Japan. | |||||
