Davis, Professor Emerita of Nagano College of Nursing (NCN) and University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), dictated her own professional life after graduating from high school to the present. Through various episodes readers will understand why and how she became a nurse, a teacher at UCSF, and a famous scholar in nursing ethics, and why and how she came to NCN where she stayed for 6.5 years. She chose nursing to go to Africa to work with Albert Schweitzer when she read his autobiography. It did not come true because of Schweitzer's death but she visited many places inside and outside of the United States, where she tried various aspects of her possibilities and met many important persons. The encounters with those persons, as well as her own decisions and some historical coincidences were determinants of her career in nursing. The content includes the fun of clinical nursing in a veteran's psychiatric hospital, an adventurous drive from New York to San Francisco, an encounter with Mariam Kaufman who recruited Anne to teach nursing to undergraduate student at UCSF, a two-year travel to Middle East and Europe with complete freedom, the academic and historical background of writing a book in bioethics that made her famous, and encounters with Miriam Hirschfeld, Hiroko Minami, Noriko Katada, and Takako Mitoh.
