Among the first to visit the region were the nobility, writers and artists, including men of letters, Arthur Schnitzler and Hugo von Hofmannsthal. In his Drama“ Distant Land” Schnitzler wrote about the hotel life of those days in this summer resort, while in his essay“ A Summer Journey” Hofmannsthal described the district and its beautiful landscape with reference to the painter Giorgione and the architect Palladio.
