A number of nursing theorists have explored it, and provided discussions and conferences concerning this topic since 1980’ s. For all such efforts, we are just able to give a vague notion of“ care,” not its precise definition. In the present paper, I try to examine two contrastive words “care” and “cure” from linguistic, i.e., semantic and syntactic, viewpoints focusing on their etymology, semantic change, and verbal usage, for the purpose of presenting a linguistic perspective for concept-analysis of“ care.” As a result, the fact that the verb “care” is a stative verb whose meaning is “to pay attention” and “to sympathize” supports various “care” concepts by nursing theorists. In addition, the etymological meaning of “care”, i.e., emotional attachment, helps us understand the core concept of“ care” not only in the sphere of nursing, but also in our everyday life.
