This survey has been done for ３ years from １９９８ to ２０００ and covered ２３６ students in total. Open-ended questionnaires were distributed to the students at the first and the last day of their psychiatric nursing practice in hospitals（valid response rate: ９８．７ % ― the first day, １００% ― the last day）. As a result of a content analysis, １４ categories were extracted from the former response and １８ categories were extracted from the latter response.
